![]() I cannot tell you how proud I am when I go past a billboard for Lucky Man. I think the ambition is to continuously seek out roles that interest and challenge you, and to be part of projects that you would look forward to seeing. How have both Lucky Man and Scott & Bailey stacked up against the work you've done in the past? There is something very lovely about spending time with colleagues outside work it shows that you are choosing to rather than being forced to. Before Christmas, I went to see A Christmas Carol starring Amelia Bullmore (former DCI Gill Murray) with Tony Mooney (DC Pete Readyough) and we had a great night. They are like a well-established family unit - and a very inclusive one so it does not take long to become part of the furniture. So Scott & Bailey's dynamic was a stark contrast for me.īut the cast and crew could not have done more to make me feel settled and welcomed. I had also just finished on Lucky Man - a completely new show where we all developed and explored that world together as collective newbies. It can be daunting walking into an established show, especially one with quite a small core cast. Is it difficult coming into shows such as this one where relationships between cast members are already established, and you're one of the new faces on the scene? Perhaps when you are faced with looking and talking about death, murder and criminals all day, levity is the antidote to alleviate the darkness. I find the more serious the concept of a show, the more it is accompanied by the same correlating degree of humour. There is also so much fun and banter on set. There are a lot of complicated lines and high-pressured scenes on a show like that, so a friendly, relaxed and calm atmosphere on set is vital to bringing out the best of anyone who is there. What's the chemistry like on the set of Scott & Bailey? When Rachel returns at the beginning of the new series, the two are forced to work together. She arrives at a time when DS Rachel Bailey (Suranne Jones) is on secondment in London. She is sparky, full of beans and relatively new to the Syndicate. I am playing Detective Constable Anna Ram in the new 3-part special. You'll also be a new series regular on Scott & Bailey - can you tell us about that? But sadly, we still have a way to go in accepting that women can by default have such drive and determination in the same way. I think her tenacious qualities are actually quite normal for most male roles. It was so refreshing to read a character like that. She is a law unto her own hands, fuelled by an overwhelming belief in her power, worth and desire to achieve her ambitions. I found Lily-Anne a deliciously wicked character to explore. I loved the concept: luck as a tradable entity. It flew off the page and I was engrossed. I read a lot of scripts, and when I picked up Lucky Man, I could not put it down. More specifically, sometimes you just get a feeling. What was it about this project and this show that drew you to getting involved and being a part of it? Lily-Anne sees Harry as a superfluous obstacle in her own criminal ambitions and has absolutely no regard for his status as a DCI. They both want to get the better of each other. ![]() She has known Harry for some time, and they have a cat-and-mouse dynamic. Her father is killed in the first episode and Harry Clayton heads up the murder investigation. Enter James Nesbitt, who as DCI Harry Clayton, becomes the conduit for this examination of luck as a tangible object: what it is, can you control it, what would you do with it? He said that if he could have any superpower, it would be luck. Lucky Man is a 10 part series created by the legend Stan Lee. We got the chance to chat to Jing about that show as well as her upcoming role on Scott & Bailey and just what else we can expect from her in the future.Ĭan you tell us a little bit about the new series Lucky Man and your character on the show? Now she continues working across film, television and stage and has most recently been seen in Sky1's brand new series, Stan Lee's Lucky Man. ![]() Plot a correlation graph to get the visual representation of the data relationship.Find multiple correlation coefficients with a formula.Make a correlation matrix by performing Data Analysis.Find the Pearson correlation coefficient with the CORREL function.Depending on your data set and your goal, you are free to use one of the following techniques: Luckily, Microsoft Excel has made things very simple. How to do Pearson correlation in ExcelĬalculating the Pearson correlation coefficient by hand involves quite a lot of math. Here's the most commonly used formula to find the Pearson correlation coefficient, also called Pearson's R:Īt times, you may come across two other formulas for calculating the sample correlation coefficient (r) and the population correlation coefficient (ρ). In statistics, it is the most popular correlation type, and if you are dealing with a "correlation coefficient" without further qualification, it's most likely to be the Pearson. In simple terms, the Pearson Correlation answers the question: Can the data be represented on a line? Pearson Correlation, the full name is the Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC), is used to evaluate linear relationships between data when a change in one variable is associated with a proportional change in the other variable. In this tutorial, we will focus on the most common one. In statistics, they measure several types of correlation depending on type of the data you are working with. A coefficient of 0 means no relationship between two variables - the data points are scattered all over the graph.A coefficient of -1 means a perfect negative relationship - as one variable increases, the other decreases proportionally.A coefficient of 1 means a perfect positive relationship - as one variable increases, the other increases proportionally.Negative coefficients represent inverse correlation and produce a downward slope on a graph - as one variable increases, the other variable tends to decrease.įor better understanding, please take a look at the following correlation graphs:.Positive coefficients represent direct correlation and produce an upward slope on a graph - as one variable increases so does the other, and vice versa. The coefficient sign (plus or minus) indicates the direction of the relationship. As r gets closer to either -1 or 1, the strength of the relationship increases. Values between 0 and +1/-1 represent a scale of weak, moderate and strong relationships. This is what you are likely to get with two sets of random numbers. A coefficient of 0 indicates no linear relationship between the variables. In practice, a perfect correlation, either positive or negative, is rarely observed. The extreme values of -1 and 1 indicate a perfect linear relationship when all the data points fall on a line. The larger the absolute value of the coefficient, the stronger the relationship: The coefficient value is always between -1 and 1 and it measures both the strength and direction of the linear relationship between the variables. The numerical measure of the degree of association between two continuous variables is called the correlation coefficient (r). If you're interested to learn causality and make predictions, take a step forward and perform linear regression analysis.Ĭorrelation coefficient in Excel - interpretation of correlation ![]() The fact that changes in one variable are associated with changes in the other variable does not mean that one variable actually causes the other to change. Correlation, however, does not imply causation. Your cat's name and their favorite foodĪn essential thing to understand about correlation is that it only shows how closely related two variables are.The temperature outside and your heating bills (negative correlation)Īnd here the examples of data that have weak or no correlation:.The number of calories you eat and your weight (positive correlation). Here are a couple of examples of strong correlation: The method used to study how closely the variables are related is called correlation analysis. It is commonly used in statistics, economics and social sciences for budgets, business plans and the like. Correlation is a measure that describes the strength and direction of a relationship between two variables. Alaska, Hawaii and International customers please email us for discounted shipping rates. The record snow is still only a start for California, which has to make up for a massive moisture deficit before it can chip away at the drought, Schwartz said. New research has found that winters of low snow, or even no snow, could become a regular occurrence in California in as little as 35 years. “I guess we will just head back after this.”Ĭalifornia A ‘no snow’ California could come sooner than you think “Clearly, we weren’t the only ones with this idea,” Morgan said. With cars being turned around, the four pulled over at the gas station for a snowball fight and to take pictures with a deserted snowman. ![]() ![]() “We were driving and there was no snow, no snow, and then bam,” Morgan said. They knew they were unlikely to make it when they left the Bay Area, but as they drove past Auburn and continued east on I-80, their hopes began to rise. “There are downed trees and power lines.”Įrin Morgan and her husband, Jaime Labeiga, were trying to get to a rental house in Truckee with Labeiga’s sister and her boyfriend, who had never seen snow before. “We haven’t had power since yesterday morning,” said Zach Stein, 33, who lives in nearby Weimar. But with no power, the pumps were off and the station closed. On Tuesday, weary travelers and locals pulled into a Valero gas station south of Colfax off I-80’s Applegate exit in hopes of snacks and fuel. Those hitting the highways encountered blockades amid hazardous conditions, with some expressing concern that mapping software was sending drivers onto dangerous, poorly maintained mountain roads in efforts to avoid closures. The search for a skier missing since Christmas Day amid whiteout conditions at a Northern California ski resort continued Monday. “I might have died on my way home.”Ĭalifornia Search for skier in Northern California continues amid snow, wind and subfreezing temperatures “I slept here at the store last night,” said Rogers, who lives in Alta Sierra, northwest of Colfax, where his home was also without power. The market was out of propane and low on bread, but Rogers said he expected to have enough diesel to run the generator until more supplies arrived. Several locals said spotty cell service was preventing them from making calls. “This is pretty gnarly,” Deveraux said of the storm, which toppled trees and threatened to dump more snow later in the day.Ī steady stream of shoppers flooded the store, leaving with bread, water and beer. “Because of road conditions and limited ability to get supplies, all resources within the city are currently limited and will likely remain so until conditions improve,” officials said.Īt Marval’s Sierra Market in Colfax, store manager Jeremey Rogers and supervisor Barrett Deveraux watched drivers navigate the unplowed parking lot. “Emergency vehicles, snowplows and their staff are challenged with getting through the traffic, so assistance may be delayed,” officials said.Įlectric vehicle drivers are encouraged to look up charging stations closest to them, officials said. “With the highways also at capacity, there are significant delays in travel time.”ĭrivers risk running out of fuel or depleting their batteries and becoming stranded, according to the statement. They warned that basic services - gas, tow trucks and lodgings - were strained or overwhelmed. In South Lake Tahoe, officials activated the city’s emergency operations center and warned drivers against unnecessary travel. Other highways were completely blocked, including Interstate 80, which was closed much of the day Tuesday from Colfax to the Nevada state line until some eastbound lanes reopened in the afternoon. Residents were urged to stay home or face delays of up to 10 hours. Highway 50 near South Lake Tahoe was backed up and “at capacity” Tuesday, officials with the California Department of Transportation said. There have been rockfalls, road closures and multi car pileups as the latest storm barreled through the state from north to south. Though welcome, the snowfall has also proven dangerous.Ĭonditions have hampered search and rescue efforts for a missing 43-year-old ski shop worker in Truckee, Rory Angelotta, who was last seen heading out to ski on Christmas morning. Screenwriters Chris Bremner, Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan use this plot development to sneakily insert a reason for the aforementioned minimization of collateral damage in the action scenes, though rest assured, there’s still enough violence for a rather hard-R rating.įollowers of the series will find a few Easter eggs hidden throughout. The sequences following this attack attempt to imbue the film with some real emotional stakes, and credit must be given to Lawrence for reminding us that he can convincingly navigate dramatic scenes. Lowery, whom Isabel commands her son to kill last “so he can suffer.” Castillo plays her role with maximum toughness, so much so that I wish she’d just gone after her enemies herself, but that whole witch character trait had me worried that “Bad Boys for Life” was going to embarrassingly do for brujería what Steven Seagal’s “Marked for Death” did for voodoo.Īrmando executes his mother’s wishes and enemies while clad in motorcycle gear straight out of “Gemini Man.” He violates her order of operations, however, going after Mike first. It’s all part of a plan to murder the people who put Isabel in prison and her husband in the grave. Meanwhile, something is brewing in Mexico, and I literally mean “brewing.” A self-proclaimed bruja named Isabel Aretas ( Kate del Castillo) executes a gruesome, “Silence of the Lambs”-style prison breakout, reuniting with her son Armando (Jacob Scipio). In the words of a far better buddy cop picture, Marcus realizes he’s “getting too old for this shit.” Mike tries to change his mind. Unlike his hothead partner, he has a wife and family and wants to spend more time with them rather than the hundreds of criminals he’s been shooting. Now a grandfather-or a “Pop-Pop” as he calls himself-Marcus re-evaluates his law enforcement career. Turns out all the stunts are in service to getting Marcus to the hospital for the birth of his granddaughter. The film opens with that speeding Porsche sequence from the trailer, with Mike and Marcus employing their usual disregard for innocents while engaging in what looks like the pursuit of the latest Miami criminal. When the climax starts laying telenovela-level melodrama atop the explosions and gunplay while openly cannibalizing ideas from “ Gemini Man,” I had to admire the audacity of those choices. I didn’t buy this “kinder, gentler Bad Boys” shtick for one minute, but that doesn’t mean I was bored. This time, Detectives Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowery (Will Smith) are more mindful of how much collateral damage they do, even if the latter must be constantly reminded to temper his carnage. ![]() ![]() Unlike the original, this one finds some depth in its female characters unlike the second, it’s not an exceptionally vile mishmash of “Freebie and the Bean” and “ Scarface” whose running time felt approximately 600 hours long. ![]() It is the best of the three films, offering in some odd ways a corrective to the prior installments.
